Cars

Australians do like exclusive cars and there are plenty events to show this. Last Friday they just closed one of the streets in Adelaide and brought there their cars.

You could find some orange cars, …

… and yellow, …

… and something bullet alike.

Where are the cars, there are the girls.

There were plenty of American classic cars.

You could see some older stuff.

And something like this.

There was something for the luxury lovers.

And for pure power enthusiasts.

And for those who are into the engineering achievements.

On Saturday we went for a little drive around the city but could not avoid same cars. It appeared, some of the cars from the show were participating the classic car rally or something like this.

Closed rode for the rally.

We watch a few cars passing by and went to look for a detour.

Instead of art

One weekend there was an art festival in Adelaide, so Luka went to see some exhibitions. But Laurius, as always, grabbed the camera went out to the parks 🙂

Maned Duck is doing something.

Male duck – big and pretty.

Another duck. Couldn’t identify it so far. It was hanging out with Pacific Black Duck, but none of the sources say that these ducks can be black. So either it’s a juvenile, or another race. Can be anything 🙂

And here’s a Pacific Black Duck.

A little bit of showing off.

Once again, fishing in Australia. While fishermen are waiting, the pelican is also waiting.

But as soon as the fish is on the hook – be the first or you are the looser.

What? I’m fishing.

Love of the crested pigeons.

And again…

One day we went to the Markets for food, but accidentally stopped by the old book stall, and bought a field guide to Australian birds. Sort of Bird Bible from the 80’s. We ran out of cash for food that day 🙂

After running through the book Luka saw one bird (104, upper right corner) and said: “I want to see it”. Later she repeated that few times. Well, she really wanted to see it. And then a call from Laurius: “I found it! I found it! I found the unhappy bird!”

Bird with a long nice white feather on his head – Rufous Night Heron.

Few hours later the bird was still there – was probably taking a nap. No wonder – it’s a night heron.

Little birds

It’s still winter in Australia, but birds have their own opinion.

Some sit in their nests hatching eggs. You can see theirs bills only.

Others have to feed their chicks who are always hungry.

Mammy, more!

Some “teenage” birds are already brave enough to look around.

Older ones can go quite far from their nest.

And some are tough enough to check, what’s going on on their bench.

What are you doing here?

But not all are so brave.

There are few who are not so lucky. This little lorikeet probbaly fell out of it’s nest and could not flight.

What a sadness?

But nature predicted this sort of mistake – you can’t flight, so climb.

On the way up you might face some difficulties. Some unfriendly rosella comes to check, what is going on. But that’s why you have parents, who can protect you.

The tree is so tall, damn it…

Warrawong national park

This weekend we went to the Warrawong sanctuary, where platypuses live. Besides, this park is indecently close – only 20 minutes away from the city, so we had to visit it.

Though, it’s still officially winter in Australia, but for us Europeans everything resembles spring. Blossoms is everywhere around.

Blue ones.

And yellow.

Trees are also pretty nice.

It is still autumn for some of the trees that are trying to ripe their fruit.

Enough about plants, we came here for the platypus.

We looked for it in the forest…

… and in some sort of swamp. Unfortunately… So we had to enjoy animals that are not so mysterious.

We found angry moorhen that was demanding for food. We also found some kangaroos.

Grazing kangaroos.

Lazy kangaroos.

And wallabies.

Some interesting relationship among animals. And of course, a variety of birds.

Red-browed finch.

Red wattle-bird.

Maybe that was a platypus?
