Mist

We woke up in the middle of the night, the full moon was shining like crazy, the fog was floating just above the ground, knee high, well more than that, something screamed in the mist, frogs were imitating little motors and grasshoppers sang their song, magpie geese cried and barked far away and it sounded like people speaking, while there were no people around, just us on a wet wet grass, also knee high, so we took our camera, freezing our feet till they got blue, well we can’t say it is true, we couldn’t see the colour, everything seemed blue in the moonlight, and after that sleeping was so good till we heard magpies singing in the morning.

Full moon, 4,30am.

I couldn’t see this light with a naked eye, only the camera captured it, some aura of unknown swamp soul or a ghost or the dawn was coming slowly.

And then came the morning, all wet and fresh and cool. We drank hot tea…

…at the world’s end.

Something cried and screamed in those swamps all night long.

Suddenly, faster then us, the fog packed it’s things and walked away just in three minutes, while Laurius packed the tent and I looked for breakfast.

And for the breakfast we had a little cheese, the same they used to advertise on foreign TV when we were kids.

Grampians

This is about the Grampians in autumn.

It was raining when we left.

Sun showed her face only for a couple of minutes in the evening.

We arrived when it was getting dark.

Next morning – little walk before breakfast.

Someone is taking shower.

Well, we look funny there.

Jurga looked too attractive for this little bird wearing her blue hoody.

After the walk we sat in the nice forest picnic ground, enjoying breakfast. Someone was too busy with making a sandwich, someone was just looking elsewhere. That was the moment when no one looked at the food.  Then I heard a growling noise and saw wings just in front of me. Shit, the bird felt in my hot tea – thought for the moment. Then I understood what happened. The cheese was stolen from my hand. Fat kookkaburra was sitting nearby and laughing at us.

So we spend the rest of the day climbing up and down.

Yeah, you climb and then wait in the queue to take a picture.

See the girl on the left. It is very high.
That’s all folks!

Daytrips around Melbourne

One day our friend Saulius and his lovely family took us with Luka’s mum to the hills. We visited animal sanctuary.

Watched the bird show – they did different tricks. Eagle was showing egg breaking skills.

It’s one of the biggest eagles in the world. This bird is using a tool (a stone) to break the egg. Clever, isn’t it?

After that we visited a little town in the hills.

Puffing Billy is a little historic train which goes in the hills. One day we’ll have a ride!

Another daytrip arround Melbourne – Point Cook. Surrounded with pretty uncosy suburbs – still new, no trees, just houses in the flat field. But then you go and get in the swampy area with eagles, kites and herons. Well, they don’t want to be photographed, you know. In a picture above – the bird’s of prey breakfast leftover.

We walked and walked and walked and got into terrible cloud of flies and bugs. The further we went the more of flying creatures were around. Finally we got to the sea.

Bugs were changed by birds. Laurius sneaking.

Red-necked stint relaxing in the sun.

Someone scarred them. They made a big circle and came back. This picture Laurius made looks a little bit like the one in a book about the birds my grandpa had.

Used to be fish. White smile though.

We met this beauty in the field. She was running around while the goat was starring at us.

What a hairdo!

On the way back we stopped in Williamstown – a Melbourne’s suburb facing the sea and the city.

We could even see our house in st Kilda from here.

For the end – full moon in St Kilda. It brings wonderfull tides here in Australia…

The Great Ocean Road

One weekend we went for a ride by the ocean.

All towns there are for the surfers.

-What’s for dinner?
-The one on the left. Or should we have both?

Iluka means “by the sea” in some native language.

Local jungle.

As soon as you step into the forest you can feel damp and chill. We thought it’s going to be a terrible cold night.

But it wasn’t that bad elsewhere.

Possum on the stub and very architectural plants.

Later on we saw a koala above the road.

Very expressive creature.

We have already been at this camp ground.

We walked a couple of kilometres towards the sea.

The beauty with earrings.

Laurius is making dinner.

Low tide. White line a bit further – the birds.

Next morning we continued our trip.

So true 🙂

The story behind this photo is this. My mother was taking a photo of us and didn’t see the wave coming, but we did

Luckily she was able to get away with dry feet.

Posing next to the twelve apostles.

There have been few shipwrecks on these shores.

Kangaroo island

We haven’t been posting here for a while, because my mother is visiting us right now. We enjoy time together instead of sitting at the computer.

When we came to Adelaide, we asked locals where to go, what to see. A lot of them recommended Kangaroo Island.

So here we are on the ferry to KI.

Some sort of Australian Scandinavia.

It was getting dark very fast, and those signs and dead kangaroos by the road didn’t encourage to hurry.

We decided to take a shortcut. Well… not sure did we save any time…

In the camp ground we were alone. Just kangaroos wandering around. And I haven’t seen so many stars in the sky before.

We visited a lake near by.

On Laurius’ birthday we went to the post office where they sold binoculars. So now we have them 🙂

What?

Red-capped plovers by the lake.

The famous Seal Bay.

For a half an hour we were observing the sea lions on the beach with a guide.

When it’s cold sea lions come to the dunes to hide from the wind. Sometimes they even come to the visitor center. Once one sea lion was blocking the entrance to the toilet. It was very inconvenient, the guide said.

On the left – a skeleton of the whale.

Lonely Planet suggested to have some fish burgers in this shop.

Someone stole the crab family. It’s terrible.

We walked some track that leads to the ocean. Really nice place.

But swimming here is really scary.

A chance to have some fun.

Next day we visited one of the famous places in KI. It seams like S. Dali created all this.

No, we are not crazy, it’s modern art.

New Zealand fur seals having fun.

Or sleeping.

Here the seals were lying in the shade.

We visited some little town that was totally empty. Just some lions in the playground.

The town.

Pelicans.

Gulls.

Blue-eyed cormorants.

While waiting for the ferry Laurius hunted this huge gull.
